"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are."
— 1 John 3:1 (ESV)
There is no force in the universe more powerful, more constant, or more transformative than the love of God. It is a love that does not depend on your performance, your background, or your strength. The Apostle John, who referred to himself as "the disciple whom Jesus loved," invites us to pause and contemplate this reality: "See what kind of love the Father has given to us..."
The word "see" in the original Greek is 'idete', which means to look at, perceive, and experience. It is not a casual glance; it is an invitation to behold and be filled with wonder. God's love is not a passive emotion; it is an active, lavish gift. He didn't just tell us He loved us; He proved it by sending His Son to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
But the depth of the Father's love goes even further: "that we should be called children of God; and so we are." You are not just a forgiven sinner; you are a beloved child of the Most High. You have been adopted into the family of God. You have full access to the Father's presence, His protection, His provision, and His inheritance.
When you walk in the security of the Father's love, fear loses its grip on your life. Shame is replaced by honor. Striving is replaced by peace. You no longer have to perform to belong; you belong because you are loved.
Today, let the truth of 1 John 3:1 settle deep into your spirit. Look up to your Heavenly Father and receive His unconditional, everlasting love. You are His child, and you are precious in His sight.
Today's Prayer
Father, thank You for the lavish, unconditional love You have poured out upon me. Help me to grasp the height, depth, length, and breadth of Your love today. I rest in the security of being Your child. In Jesus' name, Amen.
